Roger Dubuis: When Geneva Watchmaking Took Residence at Artyzen Singapore

Roger Dubuis occupies a singular position in Swiss horology. Founded in Geneva in 1995 by master watchmaker Roger Dubuis and Carlos Dias, the Maison built its early reputation on classical complications, particularly the tourbillon and skeletonised movement, before evolving into one of the most technically audacious names in watchmaking. Every piece carries the Poinçon de Genève hallmark, one of the most demanding quality certifications in the industry, and production remains deliberately limited to approximately 1,500 watches a year. In November 2024, the Maison brought a curated expression of that heritage to Singapore. The task of giving that story a physical home fell to Visionnaire.
The exhibition, titled Watchmaker Like No Other, was held at the Penthouse of Artyzen Singapore, a design-led luxury hotel whose architectural character made it a considered address for a showcase of this nature. The event paid tribute to the founder himself, tracing his journey from watchmaking school, where he was assigned student number 208, a figure he engraved on his personal tools throughout his career and which became the Maison’s enduring lucky number—through to the establishment of a full manufacture in Meyrin in 2001. By 2008, Roger Dubuis had developed over 30 in-house calibres, a remarkable output for a house of its scale.
The exhibition was structured around the Maison’s core competencies. Visitors were invited to personally attempt black polishing, the painstaking technique responsible for the mirror-finished surfaces found on Roger Dubuis tourbillon cages. Skeletonised movements were displayed alongside explanations of the watchmaker’s distinctive approach, engineering calibres as skeletonised structures from inception rather than carving away material from a finished movement. Two unique creations were unveiled during the event—the Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon, featuring hand-set rubies and a movement visible from both sides, and a new chapter of the Knights of the Round Table collection, its dial drawing from the ancient basalt formations of the Giant’s Causeway, with twelve rose gold figurines serving as hour markers.
Visionnaire designed the spatial sequence to carry visitors through the Maison’s story in an order that built as it went, giving each station the room and weight it warranted. For a brand whose entire philosophy is rooted in the precision of making, the environment around its work had to reflect the same standard. At Artyzen Singapore, it did, like the very calibres on display, engineered from the inside out.
