Mediterranean Dreams Bloom at Tanjong Beach Club for BVLGARI’s Allegra Fragrance

Tanjong Beach Club in Sentosa became the unlikely setting for one of Singapore’s more memorable fragrance launches in the middle of May. BVLGARI chose the sun-drenched waterfront venue to unveil Chill & Sole, the tenth addition to its Allegra high perfumery collection, and the choice of location was anything but incidental. With the South China Sea as backdrop and the Singapore sun doing its part, the atmosphere made a convincing case for a scent built around the Mediterranean coast.

The guest of honour was Kim Ji-Won, the South Korean actress whose performance in Queen of Tears earlier that year had made her one of the most talked-about names in Asian drama. Fans gathered outside the venue for a glimpse of her, and her arrival in a pale pink chiffon dress, unhurried and wholly undiminished by the coastal heat, set the tone for the afternoon. Her presence brought considerable regional attention to the launch with fan accounts tracking her movements across Sentosa and VivoCity throughout her stay. She was joined by Mediacorp artistes like Ayden Sng and Sonia Chew, alongside local influencers Salina Chai, Nellie Lim, Sophia Chong and Aimee Cheng-Bradshaw, as well as regional guests from China, Thailand and Indonesia—62 in total.

At the centre of it all was the fragrance itself. Chill & Sole was composed by Jacques Cavallier, the master perfumer who also presides over the perfume department at Louis Vuitton, and his hand is evident in the precision of its construction. The opening is a burst of bright lemon and petitgrain, sharp and immediate, like sunlight hitting water. Neroli follows, its green, flamboyant floral character carrying the Mediterranean reference with conviction. Italian mandarin, jasmine sambac and orange blossom lend the heart a generous warmth, before the dry-down draws everything inward to white amber and musk, soft and skin-close.

For Cavallier, neroli is the definitive scent of the Mediterranean coastline. Speaking to Elle, he described it as the fragrance that greets you as you drive the stretch of highway between the French and Italian borders where orange flowers bloom in spring and summer. Chill & Sole is, in many ways, that drive bottled. The fragrance is also customisable, and layered with the new Magnifying Neroli Essence, it takes on a lusher, more rounded body, enriched by green notes that deepen the original composition without obscuring it.

The programme Visionnaire designed for the day reflected the sensory ambition of the collection. Cavallier led guided scent workshops, walking guests through the creative thinking behind Chill & Sole and the role each ingredient plays in the finished fragrance. A sound bath session followed, offering a moment of stillness that drew a considered parallel between olfactory and auditory experience. Styling sessions using BVLGARI’s scarves completed the afternoon, each activity building on the last to give the occasion a sense of natural, reasoned progression.

The Allegra collection, first introduced in 2021, represents BVLGARI’s most sustained commitment to high perfumery, transferring the precision and artistry of its jewellery-making to the alchemy of fragrance. Chill & Sole, as its tenth chapter, carries that legacy forward with a lightness of touch that belies the care behind it. At Tanjong Beach Club on 14 May 2024, under a sky that offered a convincing approximation of the Mediterranean on a generous day, it found exactly the right home.
